Kamatha Farmer Clinics and Community Based Programs | Kamatha Participation in Exhibitions | Kamatha Community Development Programs

We conducted one day workshop on our indigenous crop products and traditional food and farming practices for the students and teachers in Mahavilachchiya educational division on 18th of July in parallel to the award ceremony of the “Kamatha Sithuwili” art and essay writing competition. Participants representing seven schools in Mahavilachchiya division participated in this workshop. The main objective of the workshop was to make the participants aware of the importance of promoting our indigenous resources and knowledge on agriculture as a way to establish food security within societies. We requested and instructed them to build home garden models in schools paying a special concern on traditional crops and bio diversity as a method of disseminating the above message to the villagers living closer to those schools.

We allocated a session to discuss the problems faced by the farmers and other villagers in Mahavilachchiya area. We furthermore discussed the possible short term and long term solutions for those problems which could be implemented at the levels of farmer and society. The workshop was concluded with a personality development program for the O/Land A/L students. The support we received from the principal, the academic staff and the students of Sri Gnanawimala Vidyalaya and other participated schools contributed a lot to accomplish this event.

A special workshop was conducted for the students of Dunumadalawa vidyalaya, Dunumadalawa in Anuradhapura a day prior to the “Kamatha Sithuwili” inter school art and essay writing competition. All the Kamatha members participated in this event, thus we could organize a successful interactive workshop for the students. In the workshop, we made the students aware of some of the useful practices of organic agriculture while motivating and advising them to win the challenges of life to be useful citizens to the mother country.

We were assisted by the principal, the academic staff, the prefects` guild and the rest of the students of Dunumadalawa Vidyalaya to make this happening a success.

We visited Siyambalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya in Monaragala on 09th of April 2008 to conduct a workshop on Agriculture as a response to a request made by Mr. K.M.Sugath who is the teacher of Agriculture in M/S/Muthukandiya Maha Vidyalaya in Siyambalanduwa. Students of Muthukandiya Maha Vidyalaya also participated in this event. This time also we focused on making the students aware of some of the useful applications of organic farming. The main workshop was followed by a personality development program for the O/L and A/L students.

We were greatly assisted by Mr. K.M.Sugath of M/S/Muthukandiya Maha Vidyalaya. The principal, the academic staff and the students of Siyambalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya also gave us a good support to make this event a success.

We visited D.S.Senanayaka College, Ampara to conduct a workshop on organic farming on 08th of April 2008.There we focused mainly on introducing the participants with the techniques of preparing “vermiwash” and other natural liquid fertilizers, compost, pesticides made of neem and other natural ingredients. Home gardening was another topic which attracted the interest of the school students. In addition to the topics we discussed under organic farming, we gave the students an opportunity to discuss matters regarding rural agriculture and some of the common problems faced by the farmers in Ampara district. We also discussed the possible short term and long term solutions for those problems which could be implemented at the level of the farmer as well as societal level.

Over 1000 students participated in this event, therefore we conducted workshops separately for different age groups. A special personality development workshop was also conducted for the A/L students who will be sitting for the A/L examination this year and next year in bioscience. The principal, the academic staff and the students of D.S.Senanayaka College rendered a significant support in making this event a success.

Kamatha team conducted a programme for the school children of Gurusinghagoda M.V., Elpitiya, Galle. Kamatha team prepared a school street drama team in Elpitiya Gurusinghagoda M.V. who made their first performance at the school's 60th birthday celebration exhibition. Kamatha team also organized a personality development programme for the participants of the drama team on the same day.

Kamatha team conducted a programme in Mahaweligama M.V., Serunuwara for the A/L and O/L students the main focus of the programme was to encourage the students yo over come obstacles in life and achieve success despite difficulties and hardships. Kamatha team also donated few books to the school library.

Kamatha team was assisted by the vice principal and the academic staff of the school to make this event a fruitfull one.
