Along with Kandhurata development bank kamatha team have started a dairy development program in the central province of Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Department of Animal production and Health. The main objective of this program is to increase the local dairy production while contributing to enhance the living standards of the dairy farmers living in the central hills.
Central province has a great potential for cattle husbandry which can greatly influence to make the country self sufficient in the milk production. Feed availability, favorable climatic conditions for highly productive cattle breeds and high ability to integrate livestock with crops are among the reasons that favor cattle husbandry in the central hills.
Kamatha team is expecting to launch training programs for the dairy farmers in all the three districts. This will cover all the areas under the 30 veterinary surgeon offices in the central province. Kandhurata Development Bank is going to provide the financial assistance for training program. The Department of animal production & health will provide the kamatha team with technical assistance and …… guidance.
Kamatha team held its first farmer training program for the dairy farmers in the Udunuwara in Kandy district. This was held in August 15th at the Udunuwara agrarian service center. The chairman of the KDB Mrs. Madhavi Harath, the managing director of the KDB Mr. Helarawa, the assistance director of the APHD Dr. Nimal chandrasiri, Veterinary surgeon of the Udunuwara VS officer and other officers of the KDB bank and livestock development officers of the Udunuwara VS office had participated in this event. This was mainly held as a model training program for the Upcoming “Kandhurata Ksheera Navodhaya” dairy development program. |
